There’s Balsam In The Air

Greetings from the coast of Maine!

It’s that time of year when there’s balsam in the air and everywhere as we turn our attention to shipping our signature wreaths and centerpieces.

All the greens are collected locally just before the wreaths are made so their freshness is assured. Each wreath weighs a hefty 4 pounds. We tie every bow by hand and use beautiful Ponderosa pinecones to decorate. Until you hang one on your door, you can’t imagine how beautiful they are!

Our signing event for Handcrafted Maine was a great success. Katy (on the left) and Greta (on the right) have produced a lushly photographed and beautifully written look at Maine crafts of all kinds.

“Through intimate photographs and narrative portraits, this book provides a window into the inner lives of creative people and brings to life the powerful environment and spirited character that nurture their unbridled ingenuity and common-sense approach to life and crafts.”

This would be a lovely holiday gift for the Maine lover in your life!

Here are a few more festive shots of Christmas at The Meadow so you can see what you’re missing!

Before The Magic

Before The Magic

Greetings from the coast of Maine!

We’re cruising into our 14th Christmas Open House. The curtain goes up on Thursday, November 16th.

You know how everything always looks just so at The Meadow. Well, here’s a look behind the scenes before the magic happens:

Sometimes it’s a little overwhelming (well, maybe more than “a little”). But amazingly, when the pressure’s on, we always manage to get it together. Next week, I’ll post photos of what it looks like after all those pizzas, rock ‘n’ roll, and late nights.

So, don’t miss the Christmas Open House which runs from Thursday, November 16th through Sunday, November 19th. We’ll be all dressed up in our Christmas best serving treats and good cheer!

And for a little icing on the cake we have a Book Signing on Saturday, November 18th! Katy Kelleher and Greta Rhybus will be in Belfast at 12:00 p.m. and Blue Hill at 4:00 p.m. to autograph copies of Handcrafted Maine.

Falling, Yes I’m Falling…

Falling, yes I am falling…

Greetings from the coast of Maine!

Outside my window, the oak tree in the dooryard is protesting the howling winds gusting up to 50 m.p.h. What remains of fall color is a memory of weeks past. But what a memory!

There’s still time to save 10% on wreaths and centerpieces! Promotion ends tomorrow!

Casanova

Greetings from the coast of Maine!

Cassie, our beagle dog who came after Jack, clearly needed a pal to bolster her courage. Thus, we began a Petfinder search where we found JJ at a kill shelter in Owensboro, KY, number 5,113 out of 5,500 beagles needing homes. He and his brother Wayne, who wound up finding a great home in Rome, NY, were picked up as strays wandering the countryside. Little is known about them other than they were both scared little puppies of an uncertain age.

Who could resist that face?!

He was transported to Maine from Kentucky by volunteers and arrived at the Trader Joe’s parking lot in Portland, Maine early one morning. Here he is on the long ride home to Belfast just after we met.

Here he is on the morning after his long journey. What a difference a day makes!

Cassie took one look at JJ and voilà, love at first sight. They have been best pals ever since. (We didn’t have a proper name tag for him, so we made one out of cardboard).

JJ fit right in. We quickly discovered that he had a penchant for young girls and the feeling was evidently mutual. It turns out that JJ never met a girl he didn’t like! Get a load of Casanova, aka JJ.

And we’ve lived happily ever after!

It may seem early to be thinking about Christmas, but it’s right around the corner. You can save 10% on holiday wreaths if you place your orders now through October 31st. We’ll begin shipping on the Monday before Thanksgiving, November 20th.

Place your orders online or give us a call. Tel: (207) 374-3785
